I'm thinking about getting a fat pack....

Postby Elven Planeswalker » Wed Feb 20, 2008 5:31 pm

Well, I've been thinking about starting to pick up fat packs - especially the Morningtide one, seeing that I'm almost done with the Lorwyn and I'm planning to read Morningtide after. Also, I need a die for life, and the player's guide looks cool, and the boxes are awesome...

Anyway, what I want to know is:

a. Well, I know Quarterstaff carries fat packs, but are there any Morningtide ones in stock? Also, what about Time Spiral (I want to read that novel too)?

b. How much do they cost? - what's the comparison to if I were to buy everything seperately - specifically the boosters and the book?

c. Would you say they're worth it?

Thanks!

while I don't work at Quarterstaff so I can't answer the first two parts of your question, I would definitely say that fatpacks are worth it, especially since they changed the format to include the deck protector boxes complete with spacer boards for those decks that aren't in deck boxes or otherwise denoted. I've bought a couple both pre and post box addition, and not been disappointed in what I got for the money (in the past, around 25-30 if memory serves, though again, not sure about that and not sure of q-staff's prices).

Dude, they're totally worth it. You'd pay about the same for the packs alone, without the book, life counter, and deck boxes.

Now, last I looked, there were both Morningtide and Time Spiral in stock... But much like Cryptorchilde, I don't work there (althogh a lot of people think I do, lol... I blame the Envoy tshirt).

Speaking of that last point, where have you been man? I haven't seen you at anything Wizkids since the last Demo Day!

Seriously though, it's totally worth it, and it's good to see you're keeping up with the gaming, my friend!

Here's the rundown on Fat Packs.

The current Fat Packs (Morningtide, Lorwyn, 10th, Time Spiral Block, Ravnica Block) contain the following for the price of $35.00

2 500 count art decorated deck boxes (Price: $2.50 each)($5.00)
8 Packs of Boosters ($32.00)(My opinion also is that they stack the boosters in the fat packs because I almost always pull some awesome rares.)
Novel ($7.00)
Land Pack ($5.00)
Plastic Separators ($1.00)
Color binders with all the cards, texts and discussion of mechanics (at least $10.00)

So just at the values I have assigned you get $60.00 worth of stuff for $35.00.

WOTC is going to be releasing a new Fat Pack format soon. You will get one card box, no land, not sure about the separators and no novel. I believe everything else is the same. That will allow us to display more and I think lower the price. The novels while cool just go in my recycle bin at home. I don't have time to read them and sometimes they really, really aren't good.

Eh, I know the books are mediocre at best usually, but I know people who rush out and buy them from Barnes and Noble as soon as they hit the shelves.

I want names and addresses for these people, so that I may smack them as needed.
