Hordes Battle Engines!

Postby ater daeus » Thu Jan 06, 2011 2:07 pm

A blurb from Ron Kruzie's Insider blog today:

"I know all of you will enjoy the battle engines; they are fantastic to build, paint, and play. I hope you can also see all the possibilities with 120 mm bases. This might get edited out (hehehe), but the HORDES battle engines are looking just as hot. Those of you who know what I play will know which one I am chomping at the bit for. And it’s what I have always wanted. Yes, it is. ☺"

For any of you that were worried that Hordes wouldn't get them :)

That's awesome. I can totally see Legion having some huge Dragon, maybe Everblight himself manifest on the field for a bit.
Me: Man, I hope Legion gets a dragoon model soon. I want an ogrun riding, like, a raek or something.
Kai: maybe you'll get, like, an ogrun with a shredder taped to each foot, like a roller skater!

Buh... Buh... Awww whynot?

rofl probably something spawning vessel-ish if I had to guess, then. Did he say anything anywhere about when they'd give details?

.... Whats funny about all of this is on the Main forums thiers a guy that spent $150 to use a 3D printer to make a custom Typhon thats mounted on a 120mm base. Its EPIC... and HUGE....

Reading the fluff of what the Typhon is, I can't help but wish that somehow that guys 120 mm Typhon would become Legions Battle Engine.

But sadly I know it not to be true. I can just hope we dont get a 120mm Spawning Vessal

Unless it spits out heavys each turn

I dont like the Khador Battle Engine... It really really breaks my immersion of the game. Those horses would be soooooo dead in any semblience of a real battle field. Cygnar... VERY cool, I love it. I havn't seen the method one, Cryx.... I have to ask, isn't it just a big deathjack on crack?? Its intersting in a way. But not as orginal as the other ideas (which at least the Khador one does have).

only time will tell about the Horde ones. Maybe Skorne will get one of those Monsterous Ancestral Guardains they talk about in the fluff.

THOSE ARE KHADOR HORSES!!!

That's the only defense I have lol. Nick seems to think that a spawning vessel is what is coming...

I hope the Hordes Battle Engines are much better than the Warmachine ones, which are just, blech.

I like Krieg's idea of a stampede of Titans...or Dire Trolls...

Privateer has already said that they don't want the battle engines to be on par with the warbeasts so I'm assuming that the battle engines for Hordes will not just be large warbeasts.

As cool as it is to have a giant troll. But come on - who could be larger than Mulg. I think it will be some sort of powder keg catapult. :)

I do really like the Warmachine battle engines. They did a great job making them unique but functionally similar as massive threats on the board. The Cryx uber-jack may be the only slightly divergent one, with more killy and less support function. They will all be unwelcome on the other side of the board, regardless. ;-P

If they are any sort of benchmark for what to expect from Hordes, then I imagine they're mostly going to be some kind of large siege/battlewagon/construct-esc thing. Think skornatapult, troll-beer--party-wagon, mobile Stonehenge, and (yes, jo) likely a massive Spawning Vessel. I doubt they went with the route of 'super huge' beast or literal 'horde' concepts as the rules applications would be squirrelly if not totally unbalanced. Will be interesting as to whether they will fall into 'battlegroups' or effectively function independently of the rest of the army. I'm also wondering how they will be included into army building; army/engagement minimum required (50 points+?), their point value, FA, tournament legality, auto-breaking tiers, etc etc. They may be on a level of 'funzies' only kind of games. We shall indeed see.

With the official release of the Ret engine's stat line these guys are looking very viable in regular army lists. With big weapons, big buffs, or big... bigness they may end up just being another option for certain strategies. Not jacks/beasts, not units, not exactly solos, but all destruction! I'm excited to see where they all land and nervously hoping that no faction gets a lame duck. I mean, we're all only getting one and if they're too specialized or even to generic they could easily fall short.

The Ret Engine is way more durable than I thought it'd be... I'm impressed and nervous lol.
